If you just graduated from college or will do so in the coming weeks — congratulations! You’re probably really excited and a little bit scared to be entering this new chapter in your life. You’ll be happy to hear that your job outlook is brighter than it has been for new grads in recent years.

Simply Hired has revealed that five percent of the site’s job listing are directed at new grads. While this represents a slight drop from last year’s six percent, their data indicates that full-time employment opportunities have increased by more than 20 percent since 2014.

Don’t get discouraged if you haven’t found a job yet. It’s true that hiring traditionally reaches an all-time high in April, but Simply Hired notes another increase in job listings targeted to new grads will occur again July and October. So keep trying to find work and know that your efforts will be rewarded.

Enjoy Less Competition than Last Year

Depending on your field of choice, you might be faced with a less competitive environment than your peers in past years. The demand for college degrees in positions like customer service agents, receptionists and data entry workers has increased by five percent. While these jobs have often been viewed as a way for entry-level candidates from all educational backgrounds to get their foot in the door, many companies are increasing their minimum requirements.

High school graduates planning to enter the workforce may also enjoy a better job outlook, as the demand for manufacturing, electronic equipment and commercial driving professionals has grown.

Gain a Competitive Advantage

You’ve probably already realized that the best jobs always seem to have the highest number of highly qualified applicants. Position yourself as the best person for the job by displaying the characteristics that employers want in a new graduate.

A 2014 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), revealed the top attributes hiring managers look for in on a candidate’s resume, including:

  • Leadership
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Written communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Strong work ethic
